Trauma Focused Therapy

Trauma Focused Therapy refers to a range of treatments designed to help people process and recover from traumatic experiences. This might include methods like trauma, focused cognitive behavioral therapy or Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) which gently help someone confront and move past painful memories. Such therapy is often structured and evidence based, aiming to reduce symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), anxiety, or distress from trauma. When working with autistic or ADHD individuals, therapists make sure to tailor these treatments to the person’s learning style and sensory needs. For example, therapists might use visual aids, incorporate routine and predictability, or allow more breaks if concentration is difficult. They also provide accommodations like extra support with scheduling or using technology to simplify therapy homework, so that neurodivergent clients can stay engaged and successful in their healing. By adapting to the individual and creating a patient, supportive atmosphere, Trauma Focused Therapy helps neurodivergent people feel safe as they work through trauma, empowering them to cope better and regain control of their lives.
