Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) is a gentle therapeutic approach that teaches people to be kinder to themselves. It was developed to help those who struggle with shame or harsh self-criticism by cultivating self-compassion and compassion for others. In CFT sessions, individuals learn techniques like mindfulness and visualisation to soothe difficult emotions and build an inner voice that is encouraging instead of critical. For autistic or ADHD individuals who have often felt misunderstood or judged, CFT offers a pathway to heal those hurt feelings. It specifically addresses the impact of negative experiences and can reduce the deep sense of shame that some neurodivergent people carry. With a warm and affirming tone, our network of therapist guides the person to recognise their own strengths and worth, helping them feel safe, accepted, and good about who they are.
