Development & Play Based Therapy

Development & Play Based Therapy recognises that children learn and heal best through play. In this approach, therapists join the child in activities they love, whether it’s building blocks, pretend play, or any favorite game, to encourage growth in communication, social skills, and emotional development. Rather than directing the child to do specific tasks, the therapist follows the child’s lead, entering their world of play and gently expanding it to introduce new ideas or skills. For autistic or ADHD kids, this kind of therapy is wonderful because it feels natural and fun, reducing the pressure they might feel in more formal settings. The therapist meets the child at their developmental level and build on their strengths, which means every small success in play is celebrated and used as a stepping stone to the next milestone. This method is truly neurodiversity affirming: the goal is to help the child become the best version of themselves, developing “who they are,” rather than trying to change them to fit someone else’s expectations. Parents are often involved too, learning how to engage in therapeutic play with their child, which strengthens the parent/child bond. With its warm and accepting tone, Development & Play Based Therapy turns therapy time into quality playtime, and in that safe, joyful space, children make remarkable strides in their abilities and confidence.
