Movement & Body Based Therapy

Movement & Body Based Therapy uses physical activities and body centered techniques to support emotional and mental wellbeing. This therapy is suitable for autistic and ADHD children, teenagers, and adults, as well as anyone who experiences stress, anxiety, emotional overwhelm, sensory sensitivities, or who benefits from body based approaches to wellbeing. Instead of just talking, these therapies might involve dance, yoga, stretching, breathing exercises, or other forms of movement to help individuals express themselves and feel calmer. Many autistic and ADHD people find it easier to communicate or release stress through movement or play, and these therapies tap into that in a fun, affirming way. For example, a child might simple exercises with a therapist to work through anxiety or improve focus, turning therapy into playtime. Movement based approaches can also address sensory needs by helping kids and adults learn how their bodies react to stress or overload, and finding soothing motions or activities to regulate those feelings. Research shows that regular creative movement can improve attention, self-control, and social skills in neurodivergent children, while also giving them a joyful sense of achievement and belonging. In a Movement & Body Based Therapy session, the atmosphere is accepting and playful: there’s no “wrong” way to move. By engaging the body, individuals often discover new ways to cope with big emotions, build confidence in their physical abilities, and reconnect with their bodies in a positive way.
